Paul needed baptism to be freed from sin.
SAUL WAS NOT FREE FROM SIN

UNTIL HE WAS BAPTIZED

On the road to Damascus Saul both saw and spoke with Jesus.

Acts 22

7And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 8And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest. 9And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me.

Author's Comments: NOTE: Jesus talked to Paul; Paul believed in Jesus-this was evidenced by his response of "What shall I do LORD? Paul did what he was told to do and he was baptized for the remission of his sins. BELIEF IN HIS HEART-- DID NOT SAVE PAUL, HE STILL HAD SINS (EVEN AFTER 3 DAYS OF PRAYING) UNTIL HE WAS BAPTIZED!

[Acts 9 and Acts 22:6-16]

The POWER of the Holy Spirit (the ability to speak in tongues, the ability

to perform certain miracles) is not the same as receiving the Holy Spirit into our hearts, after baptism. See hyperlink "The Power of the Holy Spirit in the OT and the NT".
